I was up last night until almost 4am. I talked with everyone extensively and determined that it made the most sense to get the minimum ram (Side note: NEVER buy ram from Dell or any other place like it. Unless you like being ass-raped.)and the smallest harddrive, and upgrade to the extended battery. I decided to upgrade the one year simple-warranty to the two year simple-warranty and include the I-just-drove-over-my-laptop-on-purpose-after-dropping-it-in-a-lake-please-replace-it-now warranty. Final total, ~1600$. I registered with Dell so I could save it to my shopping cart and have it all ready in the morning.
I got up early this morning so I would be ready to buy at 9am, which is when the sale starts. So, I’m working on about 3 hours of sleep. This isn’t the first time that Dell has run a major sale like this, and since it’s only a certain number of units marked, they can run out. Last time they were out within a matter of hours. When I got here, I went to check my shopping cart, and my laptop configuration had been deleted. I was mildly irritated and slightly perplexed, but I figured I must have done something wrong, and went back to set it up again. As I went through the options, I realised that they had set it up to default to the 3 year warranty, amongst other things, and the base price was upped to ~1650$. With that, and the few other options I wanted, it came out to almost 1900$. That’s about 1100$ shipped. And that’s some bullshit.
Of course it wasn’t in my shopping cart. They changed some of the minimum options at the last minute to have already sucked everyone in, and banked on the fact that most people probably still saw it as a great deal and bit. I however, did not. 800$ for the 700m is a great deal, 1100$ is itching towards not so much. And my geeks agree.
And so I am thwarted. Bleh.
